One person was taken to an emergency department for examination after a fire broke out in an apartment in Norðlingaholt, a neighbourhood in Reykjavík, mbl.is reported.
The fire started in an apartment on the third floor of a block shortly before midnight on Saturday. The resident managed to get out without assistance, and firefighters rescued the resident’s dog from the balcony.
All fire stations in the capital area were called out. The operation went well, according to Guðmundur Hreinsson, a shift supervisor with the capital area fire service, and the last fire engines left the scene at around 1 a.m.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but the apartment sustained extensive damage. The fire service handled 72 callouts overnight, which Hreinsson said he believed was a record.
