Thomas dismantled Halloween display after it grew too large

Aalborg, denmark, Halloween

Thomas Kjær spent months creating an elaborate Halloween attraction at his home in Aalborg, but stopped after it became too large and stressful to manage, DR reports. Last year, 1,600 people visited in just three hours.

For several years, Kjær and his partner transformed their garden in Kærby, a district of Aalborg, into a horror-themed maze. One year, he spent seven months preparing it, including drilling 100 posts into the ground. They also made coffins and a giant spider, hung human-like dolls in trees and built a glowing zigzag path in the front garden.

The whole neighbourhood came to see the display, and the lawn was left badly damaged. It took two months to take everything down, Kjær said, adding that the project had grown beyond what two people could manage.

He said he found it difficult to scale back the display because doing only half of what he had planned felt wrong. The Halloween items are still stored in his garage, but he has no plans to set them up again. He recently visited the garage and felt a jolt at the sight of them, he said, but cannot take seven months out of his life for the project now.

Kjær has since separated from his partner and moved to another house.
