Heimir Már deletes X account after nuclear weapons remarks

Heimir Már Pétursson, executive director of the People’s Party parliamentary group, has deleted his X account, mbl.is reported.

The previous evening, Heimir Már replied to a post by French President Emmanuel Macron, urging him to send soldiers to the battlefield in Ukraine and make nuclear weapons ready to fire immediately.

He has since apologised, calling his wording inexcusable. He said the remarks reflected his personal views and were not connected to his work for the parliamentary group.

His account now appears to be unavailable. A message displayed when users try to view the page says the account does not exist.
