Heimir Már urges Macron to ready nuclear weapons
Heimir Már Pétursson, executive director of the People’s Party parliamentary group, urged French President Emmanuel Macron to send troops to Ukraine and have nuclear weapons ready for use, mbl.is reports.
He made the comments in English beneath a post Macron published on X on Thursday, after a Russian attack on a railway station in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. At least 14 people were killed and 14 injured in the attack.
Macron expressed condolences to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Ukrainian people, and called for greater efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace. He said it was unacceptable for Russia to continue attacking civilians and rejecting peace proposals.
“Dear Macron, stop making speeches and send troops to fight for Ukraine and Europe, and have the nuclear weapons ready to fire immediately,” Heimir wrote, according to an Icelandic translation of his comment.
Heimir often comments on international affairs on X, including posts by Kremlin critic Gary Kasparov. He has also posted about the results of the European Union elections this summer and criticised the US government for maintaining friendly relations with the Russian government.
Heimir took up his current role in February last year. He previously worked in journalism for years at Stöð 2 and Bylgjan. mbl.is said it was unable to reach him for comment.
