Court sentences LTF member to life for Kalundborg double murder
A 29-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for two murders and an attempted murder in a gang-related shooting in Kalundborg. DR reports that he plans to appeal.
The shooting took place on the evening of 17 November 2020 in the car park of a Meny supermarket. The three victims were shot in what the court found was a revenge attack organised by the gang Loyal to Familia, or LTF.
Holbaek District Court ruled that the man was an LTF member at the time and took an active role in planning the killings. The murders of members of the Sydkystgruppen were discussed in a group chat as revenge for the recent abduction of an LTF member. Messages called for the attack to be as brutal as possible and said anyone caught should be “finished off”.
Two of the men died after being shot, including wounds to the head. The third was shot in the chest, arm and leg and suffered life-threatening injuries, but survived.
The judges and jury members unanimously agreed on a life sentence. The court said it had no reason to depart from that sentence. In Denmark, a person serving life can generally apply for parole after 20 years. The man was also barred from entering eight areas of the country for 10 years if he is released.
The defendant denied guilt and told the court he had left LTF. The court rejected that account as implausible and fabricated. His lawyer, Berit Ernst, argued for a 16-year sentence and said the appeal would seek acquittal or, alternatively, a reduced sentence.
The man is protected by a court order banning publication of his name, which also applies during the appeal. Six other men have previously received life sentences in the case, while two people were acquitted on appeal of having a leading role in the killings. Another person charged in the case also faces charges over a gang-related murder and attempted murder in Brønshøj in spring 2020. That case is scheduled to be heard at Frederiksberg District Court from August next year.
The 29-year-old was extradited from Lebanon in December 2024. The case against him and the other defendant was delayed for years because they had been abroad.
