Two children and their dogs escaped a house fire in Sälinkää, Mäntsälä, on Wednesday, with no injuries reported, Yle reports.
The fire broke out in an upstairs room of a two-storey detached house. Two children were inside, including a 12-year-old who was in the room where the fire started, according to the Central Uusimaa Rescue Department.
The 12-year-old closed the room’s door while leaving, helping to limit the spread of the fire, said acting fire chief Jarmo Myllymäki.
“That is exactly what you should do if a fire starts and the people in the room have been rescued. Excellent work,” he said.
The alarm was raised shortly after 11 a.m. The rescue service quickly extinguished the fire and cleared the building. The house’s upper floor sustained smoke damage. The cause of the fire is not known.
