DR reports that East Jutland Police have arrested and charged a 65-year-old man over alleged sexual abuse of his daughter about 13 years ago. She was around 12 at the time.

Police reopened the case after new information emerged during filming of a television programme. The daughter has been interviewed, and police have reviewed various materials. The force has declined to give details of the specific charge.

The man is due to appear at a custody hearing at Randers Court at 9.30am on Wednesday. A prosecutor will seek to have him remanded in custody.

The new information emerged during filming of TV 2’s programme “Fars lille pige” (“Daddy’s little girl”), which features the man’s three daughters discussing abuse they say their father committed. TV 2 reports that the man was acquitted in a case in the 1990s involving allegations of sexual abuse against one daughter, who was seven at the time. He was later reported over possible abuse of his two other underage daughters, but those cases did not go to court.

In the programme, one daughter, now an adult, resumes contact with her father and secretly records him in an attempt to get him to admit to the abuse she believes he committed. TV 2 reports that she is not the daughter involved in the new case. The broadcaster also says authorities received several reports from 2013 onwards about possible abuse of the daughter in the current case.

The man’s defence lawyer, Lasse Hummelhoff Frandsen, told TV 2 that his client had faced “significant pressure to confirm a particular account of the past” in connection with the hidden recordings. The lawyer said his client “unequivocally denies that any abuse took place.”
