Merisilta ferry back in operation in time for Bättre Folk Festival following May breakdown
The Merisilta ferry, which broke down in May, is returning to operation today at 11:00 PM and both ferries will operate normally. The transport to the Bättre Folk Festival in Hailuoto will proceed as usual.
Pasi Roos, the safety and traffic director of the Finferries company, says that the ferry was repaired today. “We had enough specialists on site. We should be able to transport the Bättre Folk crowd with both large ferries.”
The electric motor of the Merisilta, which can carry 55 cars, broke down at the end of May when its axle broke. The Merisilta was replaced by the Replot 2 ferry, which can accommodate about 30 cars.
The ferry was supposed to return to service on Sunday, July 7, at 11:00 PM, but new problems arose in the electric motors.
The latest ferry problem comes at an inconvenient time, as the popular Bättre Folk Festival, which attracts thousands of spectators, is being organized on the island this coming weekend.
