Health Minister Acko Ankarberg Johansson announces appointment of Björn Eriksson as new Director General of Socialstyrelsen in Sweden
During a press conference on Thursday, Health Minister Acko Ankarberg Johansson announced that the government has appointed Björn Eriksson as the new Director General of the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen). “I am grateful for the trust placed in me and am truly honored,” Eriksson stated at the press conference.
Eriksson has served as the Director General of the Swedish Medical Products Agency since 2021. He previously held the position of healthcare director in Stockholm and has extensive experience in the health sector. Ankarberg Johansson highlighted Eriksson’s capabilities, noting, “We have identified a capable manager and leader with the qualities necessary to assume the responsibilities of the Director General of Socialstyrelsen.”
Eriksson succeeds Olivia Wigzell, who is stepping down after six years in the role. The Health Minister commended Wigzell’s contributions, emphasizing, “She has done an outstanding job, and the methodologies she developed are incredibly important.”
Eriksson’s term will commence on August 15 and will run for six years.
