Hugo Simberg exhibition draws 19,000 visitors in under a month
Turku Art Museum’s Hugo Simberg exhibition has attracted 19,000 visitors in less than a month, Yle reports. The exhibition, titled “Beyond the Visible”, opened in early October and features more than 70 of the artist’s works.
Curator Annina Sirén said the museum expected strong interest but was surprised by how quickly visitors came after the opening. The museum’s previous large Simberg exhibition was more than 20 years ago.
Despite the high attendance, queues have remained manageable, Sirén said. Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest days, when visitors may wait 10 to 15 minutes during peak periods. When it rains, staff try to direct the entire queue inside the museum.
About 88,000 people visited Turku Art Museum’s exhibitions last year. The museum has already welcomed 77,000 visitors this year. The Simberg exhibition closes on Sunday, January 17, 2027.
