Four candidates emerge for Parliamentary Ombudsman position in Iceland
Four candidates have emerged for the position of the Parliamentary Ombudsman following the departure of Skúli Magnússon, who has held the role for over three years. As of October 1, he will transition to serve as a judge at the Supreme Court.
The individuals expressing their candidacies for the Ombudsman position are:
– Anna Tryggvadóttir, Office Manager
– Hafsteinn Þór Hauksson, Associate Professor at the University of Iceland’s Faculty of Law
– Kristín Benediktsdóttir, Professor at the University of Iceland’s Faculty of Law
– Reimar Pétursson, Attorney
A consulting committee has been established to assist in making recommendations to the Parliamentary Committee regarding nominations. The Ombudsman will ultimately be elected during a parliamentary session.
Skúli Magnússon’s new role as a judge at the Supreme Court is set to commence this autumn.
