An Icelandic company is preparing to launch a new portable synthesizer, which won an innovation award while still in development, mbl.is reports.
LOVE Synthesizers will release FIRST LOVE, a four-voice instrument, on October 30. It will be sold in Iceland, in more than 30 stores across Europe and through a large online retailer in the United States.
The synthesizer received an innovation award from Sonic State Magazine at Superbooth, described in the article as one of the world’s leading electronic musical instrument exhibitions.
Founder Kári Halldórsson, a computer scientist and inventor, developed the instrument with a team. Its distinctive interface combines a touchscreen displaying animated sound waves with physical controls.
Halldórsson said the idea grew from experimenting with sounds and software, and showing the results to friends. The company decided to develop the instrument after receiving positive feedback at an exhibition. A launch party is planned at Austurbæjarbíó, a cinema, on October 30.
