The abolished nuisance fee is the biggest obstacle to further green energy development, SEV development manager Terji Nielsen said on the radio programme Breddin, Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) reported.

Nielsen said SEV and electricity consumers face substantial costs if more wind turbines are not built, as the utility would have to keep using oil.

Sigurður í Jákupsstovu, director of the Environment Agency, said it was urgent to clarify what landowners should receive in return for allowing wind turbines on their land.

Health and Energy Minister Eyðdis Hartmann Niclasen said too much had been paid in nuisance fees so far.
