Older people in Kouvola are calling for clearer signs at the large car park serving Ratamokeskus, a hospital and health and social services centre. The Kymenlaakso wellbeing services county considers the proposal worthwhile, Yle reports.

Kouvola’s Older People’s Council has asked for the car park to be divided into clearly numbered or colour-coded sections, with signs to help visitors find their vehicles after appointments.

The council says visitors may be focused on their health, tests or treatment when they arrive. Worry or anxiety about an appointment can make it harder to remember where they parked. Ratamokeskus has two entrances, which can also make it difficult for people leaving the building to work out where their car is.

As a result, some visitors spend a long time searching for their vehicles, the council says. It notes that finding a car in the large car park can be difficult for older people and other visitors.

Lauri Lehto, a director responsible for development services at the wellbeing services county, welcomed the proposal. He said numbering the parking rows could be an inexpensive solution.

The work has not been costed, and the wellbeing services county has not yet considered the council’s written statement.
