Police investigate serious vandalism at historic sawmill in Porin, Finland

The Southwestern Finland Police are investigating a fire that broke out at Porin Konepajanranta on Thursday night as a serious act of vandalism. The historically significant sawmill building was completely destroyed in Porin early Thursday morning. The fire is suspected to have been deliberately set. Authorities continue to gather information by questioning involved parties and witnesses, and they are investigating the specific cause of the fire.
The Satakunta Rescue Department received the emergency call regarding the large building fire at 1:36 AM, deploying 15 units to the scene. According to the rescue service, the building was fully ablaze when the first firefighting units arrived. It was determined that there was nothing more that could be done to save the structure.
The Isosanta sawmill was built in 1922 and was a protected site. In recent years, the building had suffered from extensive vandalism and was in a state of disrepair.
