Finland to donate 10 diesel locomotives to Ukraine

Finland will donate 10 diesel locomotives to the Ukrainian state to replace rolling stock Ukraine has lost during Russia’s war, Yle reports.

The locomotives are being retired from service by VR Group. The Finnish Government office and VR Group announced the donation in statements.

At an extraordinary general meeting on Thursday, VR Group decided to transfer the locomotives to state ownership. Finland will then donate them to Ukraine, along with a package of spare parts.

VR Group estimates the value of the equipment at about 2.1 million euros.
