Uber and Bolt drivers demand higher fares in Helsinki

Bolt, Helsinki, Uber

More than 100 taxi drivers working through Uber and Bolt gathered in Helsinki on Thursday to protest low fares and rising fuel costs, Yle reported.

The drivers say higher operating costs are making it difficult to earn a reasonable living. Diesel has cost as much as 2.50 euros per litre, while some rides are offered at prices so low that drivers’ compensation may not cover the actual cost of the trip, said protest organiser Mahmoud Kappa.

By midday, more than 100 taxis had gathered in the parking lot at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium. The drivers called on the platforms to raise fares by at least 15 per cent and lower their commission to no more than 15 per cent of each fare.
