Search and rescue teams are currently mobilizing in the Kerlingarfjöll mountains to locate a missing hiker or possibly multiple hikers who have become lost in foggy conditions.
According to an official from the Icelandic Search and Rescue Association, ten rescue teams from the South Iceland region have been called into action, specifically those based east of Hellisheiði and along the Þjórsá River. The hikers made contact earlier this evening, indicating they are in touch with rescuers and plan to stay put while trying to keep warm until help arrives. Although there is fog in the area, the official noted that access to the location where the hikers are expected to be is relatively clear.
