Framsóknarflokkur MP Þórarinn Ingi Pétursson said it was unusual for Viðreisn leader and Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir to travel to Vietnam while discontent was brewing within her party, mbl.is reported.

Þorgerður Katrín travelled with her aide, Ingileif Friðriksdóttir, and Ingileif’s wife, MP María Rut Kristinsdóttir. Þórarinn made the remarks on mbl.is’s Dagmál programme, where he and Tómas Þór Þórðarson, a substitute MP for the Independence Party, discussed Viðreisn’s position after Jón Gnarr left the party’s parliamentary group.

“I find it very remarkable, and I really can’t understand it, to go away at a time when fires seem to be burning, on a holiday to Vietnam — or a holiday, if it was one,” Þórarinn said.

Jón Gnarr has described cliques forming within the parliamentary group. Tómas said it was clear who belonged to the clique.
