A bill to abolish the national pharmacist position has been submitted to the Løgting, the Faroese parliament, KVF reports. The proposal would separate the Pharmacy Service’s operations from the Health Authority’s oversight.
The national pharmacist currently administers laws on the Pharmacy Service and medicines, and monitors compliance with them. Under the proposed structure, the Pharmacy Service would handle operations, while the Health Authority would take responsibility for oversight.
The Ministry of Health says the requirement for the national pharmacist to hold a master’s-level pharmacy qualification could be removed. The new director of the Pharmacy Service, who would replace the national pharmacist, could instead seek advice from pharmacists.
