MobilePay adds age verification to its app

MobilePay users can now prove their age through the payment app, Yle reports. The age certificate confirms whether a user is over 16, 18, 20 or 24, without showing their date of birth or exact age.

Users over 15 must complete strong authentication to use the feature. Information about the authentication is stored in their customer records, which the app checks to determine their age.

“Young people can now easily prove their age with their phone at cinemas, kiosks or events,” said Perttu Kröger, Vipps MobilePay’s country manager for Finland.

Users can also add a passport photo to the certificate. The feature is available in the Wallet tab of the MobilePay app.
