Police have found no reason to suspect a crime in a September collision in Varkaus in which a 15-year-old moped rider was killed, Yle reports. The police have completed their preliminary investigation, and the case will not be referred to a prosecutor.
The rider was run over by a combination vehicle in central Varkaus. Police said the driver did not see the moped rider beneath the vehicle when setting off from an intersection. The rider was in the same intersection, in an adjacent lane.
Police said the driver, a Finnish man, was located on Saturday and is believed not to have noticed the collision, which is why he continued driving. An investigator from the Eastern Finland Police Department said shortly after the crash that police viewed it as an unfortunate accident.
