Marius Borg Høiby arrested for assault and property damage in Oslo
Marius Borg Høiby, 27, was arrested by police in Oslo last Sunday under charges of assault and damage to property against a woman he is reportedly in a relationship with.
In a statement, Høiby expressed regret for his actions, admitting that he committed assault and vandalism in an intoxicated state after an argument. He acknowledged his struggles with substance abuse and mental health issues, stating, “I have struggled with addiction for some time, and I have been in treatment before. I intend to resume that treatment seriously.”
He emphasized that his struggles do not excuse his actions and expressed a desire to take full responsibility for what occurred. Høiby directly apologized to his girlfriend, stating that she did not deserve what happened that night, nor the subsequent intense media attention.
The incident is reported to have taken place in the victim’s apartment in Frogner during the early hours of Sunday morning. According to police, Høiby is accused of inflicting violence on the woman and damaging property. A knife was seized by the police from the apartment; however, it is stated that it was not used against the victim.
Police were alerted to the situation by a friend of the woman around noon, leading to a response that included an initial interview and collection of evidence from the apartment. The woman received medical attention but was not hospitalized, as confirmed by her legal counsel.
Høiby was arrested later that Sunday afternoon near Skaugum and had complied with police after being contacted by them beforehand. The arrest was reported to have proceeded without incident.
