Alcohol sales at Vínbúðir fall 17% over three years

Alcohol sales at Vínbúðir, ÁTVR’s alcohol shops, fell 7.6% in the first nine months of 2026 compared with the same period last year, according to figures reported by mbl.is.

The shops sold 14.7 million litres of alcohol in the period, down from 15.9 million litres in the first nine months of 2025.

Sales have also declined over a longer period. The shops sold 16.9 million litres in the first nine months of 2024 and 17.7 million litres in the same period of 2023. The total drop from 2023 to 2026 was 17%.
