Plans by property company Reitir for new housing and commercial space in Spöngin, in Grafarvogur, have been well received, mbl.is reports.

The proposed development would add apartments, space for shops and services, and public spaces.

A survey commissioned by Reitir found that 53% of Grafarvogur residents aged 60 and over expect they will want to sell a larger home and move to a smaller apartment within the district. The survey also found a shortage of smaller apartments there.

There is strong interest in increasing the number of public spaces and green areas in Spöngin.
