Iceland, Jón Gnarr, Viðreisn

Icelandic MP Grímur Grímsson has apologised to former MP Jón Gnarr for comments about a committee chaired by Gnarr, mbl.is reports. The committee dealt with issues affecting children with complex support needs.

Speaking on RÚV’s Vikulokin programme, Grímsson said little had happened in the committee in recent months and that he had not been invited to its meetings lately.

Gnarr responded that the committee’s term had ended five months earlier. It was appointed for one year in June 2025. He said he viewed Grímsson’s comments as a personal attack.

In a Facebook post, Grímsson acknowledged that he had answered questions about the committee clumsily. He said he had not been invited to meetings because the committee was no longer active, and apologised to Gnarr.

The comments came after Gnarr left the Viðreisn party’s parliamentary group earlier this week. He has expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s priorities on children facing complex difficulties, as well as with working methods and cooperation within the party.
