Arktisk Kommando fails to detonate Second World War bomb in Viðvík

Arktisk Kommando, Second World War, Viðvík

A Second World War deep-water bomb remains in Viðvík after an attempt to detonate it failed, broadcaster KVF reported.

The detonation charge used by Arktisk Kommando did not work, so no explosion took place. The bomb is still in the outfield at Viðvík, on the island of Viðoy.

The bomb came from a British Catalina aircraft that crashed in Viðvík in 1943. Arktisk Kommando plans to try again when the weather allows and has asked people not to approach the bomb out of curiosity.
