Police arrested three men during demonstrations in central Copenhagen on Saturday, DR reported. Two were detained after a dispute between people from separate demonstrations, while a third was arrested for refusing to give police his name.
Jakob Hansen, a deputy police inspector with Copenhagen Police, said the first two arrests were made at 13:55 near Kongens Nytorv, a square. Police are investigating what offences they may be charged with.
The demonstrations began at 14:00. The right-wing grassroots movement Det Danske Folk held a rally with slogans including “Fair and realistic remigration” and “Against Nazism, communism and Islamisation”. A counter-demonstration organised by several groups, including Mino Danmark, opposed remigration and racism.
Police kept the demonstrations apart, including near Kongens Nytorv. Both groups later reached Christiansborg Palace Square, where demonstrators were gradually leaving and police were working to manage the crowds.
Before the rally, Det Danske Folk said people wearing uniforms, matching single-colour clothing or camouflage should expect to be turned away. The movement had agreed with Copenhagen Police that officers would help keep unwanted groups from joining. The arrangement followed unrest at a previous demonstration on September 5, when a group of black-clad people threw firecrackers and fireworks at counter-demonstrators and several people performed Nazi salutes in the street.
