Crown Prince Christian says he does not want public attention to limit his life. He made the comments in a birthday interview with musician and X Factor judge Benjamin Hav, published on Hav’s YouTube channel on Saturday, DR reports.
The conversation was recorded for Christian’s 21st birthday, which he celebrated on Thursday, October 15. The pair met in the morning on Dronning Louises Bro, a bridge over the lakes in Copenhagen, then took a canal tour and visited Fælledparken, a park in the city. The video does not say when the trip was filmed.
Asked how he handles people filming him or approaching him, Christian said: “I think it’s because I don’t want to be held back by being who I am. I don’t want to think, ‘I can’t do that because there are too many people.’” He said he may have to turn down requests for photos, but can wish people a good concert.
Christian also said he tries to take inspiration from his father, King Frederik, and his grandmother, Queen Margrethe, without copying them. Most of their advice is useful to everyone, he said, such as behaving properly.
He said he was aware from an early age that his life was different from other children’s. His parents could not always take him to school, and he was accompanied by two bodyguards, he recalled.
Christian told Hav that he goes hunting and plays golf with his father. The royal family also usually tries to have dinner together on Sundays, and sushi is among its favourites.
Christian was appointed a second lieutenant at the Guard Hussar barracks in Slagelse in June and is currently training a group of conscripts.
