Coastal states have agreed quotas for blue whiting and herring in 2027, KVF reports, citing a statement from Norway’s Ministry of Trade and Fisheries.

The total blue whiting quota is 1,064,191 tonnes, while the herring quota is 588,004 tonnes. The countries followed recommendations from fisheries scientists at ICES.

Under the current allocation, the Faroese blue whiting quota will be just under 380,000 tonnes, 75,000 tonnes more than this year. The herring quota will be close to 60,000 tonnes, an increase of just over 5,000 tonnes.

The Faroe Islands, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Greenland, Iceland and Norway are due to begin talks on mackerel next week.
