Christina and Frederik ended their relationship on the Danish reality show Married at First Sight, but still disagree about what went wrong, DR reports.

Christina said on the show’s podcast that their worldviews were too different to meet. Frederik, however, had wanted to stay married after the five weeks of filming and try the relationship away from the cameras.

Both say they are doing well now, but their relationship remains difficult. Christina said she hesitated before agreeing to appear on the podcast together because things between them are in a challenging place.

Their problems were visible during the programme. Christina spoke about feeling alone and wanting more initiative, while Frederik said they had sometimes misunderstood each other and that he struggled to open up. They called their final couples therapy session “crisis therapy”.

After watching the programme, Frederik said he understood why Christina had thought he no longer wanted to continue. Despite their differences, they now recognise that each tried to make the relationship work. “I gave it everything I had,” Christina said.

Frederik said he respected Christina for standing by her decision to end the marriage. Though he was disappointed she did not want to continue, he said he had developed so much during the experience that he could not feel let down. Christina said she had joined the programme to find a partner, not to embark on a journey of self-development, but was proud she stayed true to herself.

“It wasn’t us, and it isn’t going to be us. So what? We gave it a try, and I think we can both be proud of that,” Christina said.
