Finnish broadcaster Yle has sold the format for its puppy programme to a Dutch children’s show, Yle reports.
The buyer is Het Klokhuis, an educational and current affairs programme for children that is part of the Dutch public broadcasting network. Yle’s factual journalism editor, Ville Alijoki, said the deal was agreed after the Dutch programme contacted him while he and producer Jyri Loikkanen were preparing the format for sale.
Yle’s Pentulive follows a mother dog and her puppies for about eight weeks, from birth. The deal includes a format guide documenting the production process, including schedules, teams, budgets and the responsible selection of a litter. It also offers guidance on audience interaction and includes some consulting.
Alijoki did not disclose the price, but said it was modest. He said Yle was seeking visibility and new audiences rather than significant revenue. The Dutch team has been invited to Finland to see how the programme is made.
Pentulive is also being shown in Sweden this year through a programme exchange, and the format has attracted interest from other countries.
