Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir says she would have preferred Jón Gnarr to remain in Viðreisn’s parliamentary group, but respects his decision. She is glad he intends to stay in the party, mbl.is reports.
Gnarr announced at the start of a parliamentary session on Thursday that he was leaving the group. He plans to sit outside the parliamentary groups but says he will support the government.
In a Facebook post, Þorgerður said she and Gnarr had worked well together, often laughed a lot and continued to share important values and a vision for the future. She referred to the message on his cap, which reads: “Greenland is not for sale.”
“I’m also glad he intends to stay in Viðreisn, and he is of course always welcome back in our parliamentary group,” she wrote. “Politics is about people. And although paths may diverge in one arena, that does not mean friendship has to end.”
