Social Democrats, Centre Party and Green Party leaders want Ulf Kristersson to receive the mandate to explore forming a government, SVT reports. They are believed to want more time to negotiate their own potential government deal.
The move comes after Magdalena Andersson lost Thursday’s first prime ministerial vote since the election. The result was 99 votes in favour and 248 against, with two members of parliament absent.
It is not yet clear who will receive the mandate. The red-green parties’ support for Kristersson comes despite there currently being no indication that he would win approval in a prime ministerial vote. While he explores forming a government, the parties could continue talks on their own alternative.
