Faroese vessels targeting mackerel are currently operating in international waters to the north. According to Vørn, no applications have been submitted for permission to fish in Norwegian waters yet.

There have also been no requests to enter British waters, which is somewhat expected as the mackerel fishing season there typically begins later in the year.

Out of the 12 vessels eligible for mackerel fishing in Norwegian waters, none have submitted applications so far. A total of 21 vessels applied for access to Norwegian waters according to the new mackerel agreement with Norway, and a lottery was conducted by Vørn.

None of the 12 vessels that secured access through the lottery have applied for permission yet.

Applications for access are granted one trip at a time. Once a trip is completed, the vessel will be placed at the bottom of a list alongside the 21 successful applicants. It is crucial for the vessels to act swiftly; if a ship does not commence fishing within 24 hours of receiving permission, that authorization will be revoked, allowing the next vessel on the list to take its place.
