Reykjavik District Court has sentenced Sigurgeir Hannesson to 22 months in prison for driving while disqualified on four occasions, mbl.is reports. The court said he had now committed the offence for the 11th time within the period in which repeat offences are counted.
The offences took place in Reykjavik and Kópavogur from November last year to the end of April. Police stopped Hannesson on Miklabraut, near Kringlumýrarbraut, on November 30; at Stekkjarbakki on April 15; on Skemmuvegur in Kópavogur on April 28; and at Engihjalli the following day. He was disqualified from driving each time.
The capital area police commissioner issued the indictment on July 20. Hannesson admitted the offences and asked for the most lenient sentence permitted by law. The court found the charges proven on the basis of his admission and other evidence.
The court noted that Hannesson had previously been sentenced to eight months in prison for driving while disqualified. In that February 12 ruling last year, he was found to have committed the offence for the 10th time within the repeat-offence period.
In setting the sentence, the court considered his record, the four offences and sentencing practice. His full admission was considered in his favour.
