Undefeated professional boxer Emin Kadri has criticised Education and Children’s Minister Inga Sæland for opposing the legalisation of professional boxing in Iceland, mbl.is reports.

Sæland wants the ban to remain in place, citing a higher injury rate in professional boxing than in other sports. Amateur boxing is permitted in Iceland.

Kadri criticised the minister in a post on Instagram, calling it “unacceptable and perhaps arrogant” for her to believe she knew better than the rest of the world what laws should be passed and what people should be allowed to do. “Every single Nordic country has long since legalised this,” he said.

The article says Iceland and North Korea are the only countries in the world to ban professional boxing outright by law.
