Editors are creating a free online archive of Faroese speeches, from political addresses to sermons and wedding speeches, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
The archive, at foroyskarrodur.fo, is intended to preserve speeches and make them available for inspiration, teaching and research. Anyone can submit a speech, provided it was not written by artificial intelligence, said rhetorician Eydna Skaale, one of the project’s editors.
Skaale said speeches can offer insight into Faroese society, language and how values have changed over time. She and fellow project member Torbjørn Jacobsen discussed the initiative and the importance of speechmaking on a morning radio programme.
The editors are asking the public to send in speeches. The archive is expected to open to the public on Flag Day next year.
