Sweden’s parliament will vote on Magdalena Andersson as prime minister of a Social Democratic one-party government on Thursday, SVT reports. The broadcaster’s political reporter Erik Nilsson is taking questions about the vote in an online chat starting at 7.30am.
Andersson has said it may take several prime ministerial votes to form a government that parliament will tolerate. She has described a vote on her candidacy as a way to move the process forward, while acknowledging that she expects to lose it.
The Left Party and the Green Party have said they will vote against Andersson if the alternative is a government made up solely of the Social Democrats. The Centre Party has not said how it will vote. The Greens have said they still believe a majority government including all four parties is the best option.
Speaker Andreas Norlén can propose up to four candidates to parliament before a snap election must be held. He has said the possibility of a snap election could increase pressure on parties to weigh their options.
