A resident found several syringes scattered across a playground on Leirubakki in Breiðholt over the weekend, mbl.is reported.
Joanna Wasewicz raised the issue in the Facebook group Betra Breiðholt. Other residents responded with expressions of dismay. Photos showed several needles, some with protective caps and others without.
Wasewicz said she contacted police and was advised either to pick up and dispose of the needles or wait until Monday for a Reykjavík city employee to remove them.
A city employee came on Monday and told her the needles should not be put in general rubbish. They should instead be placed in a special sharps container and taken to a pharmacy for disposal.
