The Ísafjörður rescue team is more prepared than usual as an orange weather warning takes effect in the Westfjords, its chairman told mbl.is.

“We always meet and get everything ready, but now we’re a little more prepared than we usually are,” Valþór Atli Birgisson said. The team is not maintaining a special presence at its station, but most members can get there within three minutes. All equipment is ready, and the team checked it on Monday.

Birgisson said the weather had already begun to worsen. The warning is due to remain in effect until 4am, unless conditions change.
