Hólmavík, Iceland, weather

The sea reached the shore in Hólmavík during Wednesday’s storm, but a local resident told mbl.is there was little cause for concern.

“It was nothing unusual or significant here, just a bit windy,” said Þorvaldur Garðar Helgason, who watched conditions in the town. He acknowledged that some seawater came ashore.

Þorvaldur said he knew of no damage from the wind or waves and that conditions had eased. Having lived in Hólmavík all his life, he said northeasterly winds there did not usually bring extreme weather or gusts: “It’s just strong wind, then it’s over.”

He said he was not worried about the northerly wind forecast for the evening, adding that southeasterly and southwesterly winds were more likely to catch residents by surprise.
