Finnish rail company VR is starting change negotiations that could result in layoffs and up to nine job losses, Yle reports. The talks cover 310 locomotive drivers and 20 rail yard workers in VR Logistics.
Up to nine employment contracts could end in rail yard work. Locomotive drivers may be laid off because of a reduction in work. Their workload is affected by demand in freight and long-distance passenger traffic.
Any layoffs would last no more than 90 days. VR says it will seek to reduce them through voluntary leave and holiday arrangements. The potential layoffs will vary by region according to customer demand.
VR invited a staff representative to the change negotiations on Monday, October 13.
