A section of Iceland’s Ring Road beneath Eyjafjöll will close from 5 a.m. on Wednesday until at least 9 a.m. because of the forecast, mbl.is reports.
The closure will run from Heimaland, near the Markarfljót river, to Freysnes. It will be a “soft closure,” with staffed checkpoints in the area, according to the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration. Several other roads around the country are also under an uncertainty alert.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office has expanded its weather warnings for Wednesday, adding South Iceland and the Breiðafjörður region to areas under orange warnings. Orange warnings had already been issued for the Westfjords, Strandir and North-West Iceland. A yellow warning remains in effect for the capital region.
