IRF is working with farmers across the Faroe Islands to encourage people to eat more offal through a new website, avrod.fo, KVF reports. The aim is to make offal easier to obtain and reduce the amount that ends up in compost heaps.

“We want to create a platform for people who do not have access to offal and for farmers who want to sell it,” said Marta Brøndum Kallsoy, IRF’s communications and marketing representative.

Customers order online and choose a participating farmer. They collect their order from the farmer, packed in a tray like those used in a regular refrigerated display at FK. The service is intended to make offal more accessible, including to people unfamiliar with handling sheep.

The project has been in development for a year. It began with a book produced in collaboration with Kvinnan magazine, and the website has been tested for more than a month. Kallsoy said it is already attracting many customers and farmers, with interest continuing to grow.

Hoyvík farmer Sigert Paturson, who is registered on the platform, said the system makes ordering easier and reduces the need for phone calls. He receives orders by email and can pack them accordingly.
