The Ostrobothnia District Court has ordered a psychiatric assessment of a Vaasa man suspected of killing his girlfriend and causing a fatal crash in Laihia, Yle reported.

The man is suspected of killing his girlfriend in an apartment building on Palosaari in Vaasa in late August and setting the apartment on fire. Afterward, he allegedly drove deliberately into another car in Laihia. The other car’s driver died and two passengers were injured.

The man fled the crash scene on foot and was found about three kilometres away. He is charged with, among other offences, two murders and aggravated endangerment of traffic safety.

Police have said they have a clear understanding of how the events unfolded, but the pre-trial investigation is still ongoing. The deadline for bringing charges is in January next year. Ilkka-Pohjalainen first reported the psychiatric assessment.
