Morsø Municipality is looking for a teenager to spend a day as mayor as part of a work-experience placement, DR reports. The opportunity is open to students in grades 8 to 10 who live on the island of Mors.

Mayor Jens Dahlgaard, a Social Democrat, said the idea was to give young people a chance to see what the job involves. He said his first year as mayor had shown him it was different from what he expected.

The student will not be able to make major decisions, such as approving more money for a school trip, Dahlgaard said. Instead, the day will offer a look at the mayor’s responsibilities and a busy schedule.

Dahlgaard said the initiative aims to encourage young people to take an interest in politics. The municipality has already received many applications, and the deadline is next Wednesday.
