Yle reports that P2X Solutions has begun shipping e-methane made in Finland to Germany, marking the first time Finnish-produced e-fuel has been delivered elsewhere in Europe.

The company produces synthetic methane from green hydrogen at its plant in Harjavalta. The gas is transported in containers to Mäntsälä, then fed into Finland’s gas network through Auris Energy and on to European markets.

P2X Solutions chief executive Herkko Plit said the deliveries showed there was a market for synthetic fuels and that the sector was moving from plans to implementation. He said the Harjavalta plant’s e-methane output had already been sold for the next 10 years.

Auris Energy growth director Ville Karttunen said Finland’s gas network does not reach the areas best suited to gas production. The company is therefore building a virtual gas network based on container logistics, he said.
