Iceland weather, storm, weather warnings

A deep, rapidly intensifying low-pressure system is expected to bring severe weather to much of Iceland on Wednesday, with yellow and orange weather warnings issued, mbl.is reports.

Tuesday is forecast to be relatively calm, with light southerly or variable winds. Winds will turn southwesterly at 3-8 metres per second in the afternoon. Northern and eastern areas should remain mostly dry, though light precipitation is possible later in the day. Showers are expected in the south and west, with temperatures of 6-10C.

On Wednesday, strong easterly or northeasterly winds and storms are forecast. Many lowland areas will see moderate to heavy rain, while sleet or snow is expected in the mountains. Temperatures will range from 2C to 8C.

Winds and precipitation are expected to ease in the south and east later on Wednesday. In the northwest, winds are forecast to turn northerly at 18-25 metres per second, with sleet or snow. Similar precipitation is expected in the northeast late in the evening, and temperatures will fall.
