Bjørk Rúnadóttir, who was diagnosed with depression a year after her daughter was born, is urging politicians to restore funding for a preventive support programme, KVF reports.

Rúnadóttir said it can be difficult to ask for help. She is concerned that mothers in similar situations may not receive the support they need now that funding for “Ein góð byrjan” (“A good start”), a programme aimed at preventing postpartum depression, has been removed from the draft budget.

The programme received 450,000 kroner last year. Rúnadóttir is calling on politicians to keep it in place.
